J. MURRAY NEIL

J. Murray Neil was a native Scot who was born in Selkirk but lived in Lasswade, Midlothian from 1969 up until his death in 2013. His main interests included painting, music, writing and rugby football.

As a traditionalist in watercolour Murray was interested in creating the various moods of the natural and built environment at home and abroad. He has had a number of successful exhibitions of original watercolours and prints in and around Edinburgh. He also enjoyed calligraphy.

Murray wass the author of a three volume series of books entitled "The Scots Fiddle, Tunes, Tales & Traditions" published by Neil Wilson Publishing Ltd. Glasgow and he wrote a number of other books produced as private collections.

Murray played the fiddle regularly with the East Lothian Fiddlers and was also a member of the Oban & Lorne Strathspey and Reel Society. He played the tuba annually as a guest of Selkirk Silver Band at Selkirk Common Riding and other Borders festivals which he enjoyed for many years.

Murray passed away in October 2013 but his family will continue to promote his beautiful work to ensure his legacy continues.
